Don’t miss "The Crucible", by Arthur Miller, coming this fall to the Valley Players. Directed by Ruth Ann Pattee, the show dates are Oct. 10-12 and 17-19, with all performances at 8 pm except Sunday, Oct. 19 at 2pm.The story of "The Crucible" takes place in 1692, during what has become known in American history as the Salem Witch Trials. The play focuses upon a Puritan farmer named John Proctor, played by Josh Krushenick of Warren, his wife Elizabeth, played by Susan Marks of Moretown, and a young servant-girl, Abigail, played by Kiersten Olivetti of Williston, who maliciously causes the wife’s arrest for witchcraft. The farmer goes to court to get the girl to admit the lie, with the help of his own servant, Mary Warren, played by Shaina Taub of Waitsfield, but it is here that there is no justice. The farmer, instead of saving his wife, finds himself also accused as several young girls, who have gained personal power by pretending to be "witched", are encouraged by court officials and other adults to name those who torment them. The local minister, Reverend Parris, played by Liam Hannon of Duxbury, cares only for his own reputation and place in the community, and it is up to an outsider, Reverend John Hale, played by Michael LeMay of Montpelier, to try to regain control of events that have terrifyingly gone wrong. Volunteers are needed for ad sales, tickets sales, refreshment organizing and prop finding. Also needed are many pieces of furniture from or similar to those of the era. Anyone interested in helping should call Ruth Ann at 496-6318 or e-mail thespians@madriver.com. |
