The Valley Players has been promoting cultural activities in the Mad River Valley for forty years, including production of plays and musicals, education in theatrical arts, and concerts and comedy shows. We also make our space available to other theatrical groups, musicians, and individuals for performances or gatherings. Even with the challenges of 2020, we are committed to continue serving residents and visitors with new shows and events.
2020 Craft Fair moved to Online!
The Annual Mad River Valley Craft Fair, normally held at Kenyon’s Field in Waitsfield over Labor Day Weekend, will be presented online this year due to COVID-19 state restrictions. Over 20 artists from Vermont and all over New England will offer their work for sale from September 5 -October 12, through madrivercaraftfair.com
"Deciding to cancel the 2020 Mad River Valley Craft Fair was difficult, especially since our artists need to make a living,” said Laura Arnesen, Craft Fair Manager for the Valley Players community theater group. “State requirements to sell tickets in advance for specific times just wasn’t manageable. Since we typically gather thousands of people, many from out-of-state, the Board of Directors and I felt that the health risks were just too great.”
The Valley Players purchased the highly successful Craft Fair in 1989, after nineteen years of private ownership. Staffed by Arnesen and numerous volunteers, the fair provides support to maintain the Valley Players Theater on Main Street in Waitsfield. The group has been promoting cultural activities in the Mad River Valley for forty years, including production of plays and musicals, education in theatrical arts, and concerts and comedy shows. “The Craft Fair is our major source of funding for the year,” said Board of Directors member Ruth Ann Pattee. “Both the artists and the theater group could really use the support of the community at large to get through this financially uncertain time.”
2020 marks the 50th Craft Fair, and plans were underway for a special celebration that now will be postponed until Labor Day weekend, 2021. The Craft Fair website will feature professional photos of the products for sale, easy online payments and receipts, and shipping directly from the artist. Proceeds will primarily benefit the artists, with a small percentage of each sale donated to the Valley Players.
